וַיֹּ֨אמֶר לִֽיהוּדָ֜ה נִבְנֶ֣ה ׀ אֶת־הֶעָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֗לֶּה וְנָסֵ֨ב חוֹמָ֣ה וּמִגְדָּלִים֮ דְּלָתַ֣יִם וּבְרִיחִים֒ עוֹדֶ֨נּוּ הָאָ֜רֶץ לְפָנֵ֗ינוּ כִּ֤י דָרַ֙שְׁנוּ֙ אֶת־יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ דָּרַ֕שְׁנוּ וַיָּ֥נַֽח לָ֖נוּ מִסָּבִ֑יב וַיִּבְנ֖וּ וַיַּצְלִֽיחוּ׃ (פ)
Denn er sprach zu Juda: 'Lasst uns diese Städte bauen und Mauern und Türme, Tore und Bars daraus machen. Das Land ist noch vor uns, weil wir den HERRN, unseren Gott, gesucht haben. Wir haben ihn gesucht, und er hat uns auf allen Seiten Ruhe gegeben.' Also bauten und gediehen sie.
Megillah
There is an indication of this in a precise reading of the text, as it is written, “For he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities” (II Chronicles 14:6). From this we can infer that they had already been towns beforehand; learn from this.
